2008 SEP 29 — ClearCount Medical Solutions, an innovator of patient safety solutions for the O.R., announced the appointment of Jim Srock to the position of Vice President of Engineering and Operations. In this capacity, Mr. Srock will be responsible for development of the company’s functional departments and infrastructure as well as leading the engineering team in the development of products and solutions for improving patient safety in the O.R., including the Company’s groundbreaking SmartSponge(TM) System.
“I’m excited to join an excellent team focused on the importance of improving patient safety in the O.R.,” said Mr. Srock. “The innovations that ClearCount has demonstrated to date give an ideal foundation for a wide range of exciting products and solutions.”
Mr. Srock most recently served as Vice President of Engineering and New Product Development at Renal Solutions, which brings innovative dialysis solutions to market and was acquired by Fresenius Medical Care in 2007. At Renal Solutions, Mr. Srock built a multi-disciplined engineering team, developed cross functional business and engineering processes in compliance with FDA and other regulatory agencies, defined and led the development of several new dialysis systems, and reduced consumables costs through value engineering initiatives, among other achievements.
Prior to that role, Mr. Srock served in engineering or program manager roles for Oberg Industries, Bayside Automation, Medrad, Inc., Respironics, Inc., and Contraves. Mr. Srock has led the development and commercialization of products which include hospital ventilators, hospital laboratory automation systems, commercial consumer products, power contrast media delivery systems, and missile test equipment for the military. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and has completed certification training with the Program Management Institute.
“Jim has an outstanding track record of successfully building and leading engineering teams in the medical device industry over the past 17 years,” said David Palmer, CEO, ClearCount Medical Solutions. “Jim is an excellent addition to our Senior Management Team.”
ClearCount’s SmartSponge System is the only system to combine the benefits of counting and detection for surgical sponge management – enabling healthcare workers to prevent patient safety risks associated with left-behind sponges. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and an increasing number of private insurers have indicated that in the Fall of 2008 procedures associated with “never” events such as left-behind surgical sponges will no longer be reimbursed. To address the challenges of patient safety, the SmartSponge System helps to improve patient safety while improving efficiency.
