1) "Strategies to reduce operative duration can reduce infectious complications and length of stay," said the January Journal of the American College of Surgeons. In their recent study of nearly 300,000 operations performed at 173 hospitals from 2005 to 2007, the authors found that the 30-day rate of infectious complications rose by almost 2.5% for every 30 minutes between incision and closing, with duration time being an independent predictor across this broad range of procedures. Given one of every eight surgeries features a miscount and the additional efficiency RFID technology provides the counting process, this is yet another compelling reason to choose ClearCount.

2) A recent article in Health Devices Magazine outlines the hazards the industry should be paying close attention to. It's excellent that ClearCount was mentioned in this piece and we were surprised by the number of these hazards that don't yet have a solution available to address them. We hope that more entrepreneurs and safety experts will step forward with innovations!
3) The SmartWand-DTX gained a lot of notice in the last few couple of months, for both its innovative combination of surgical sponge detection and count validation.
4) Recognition is due to Minnesota, which recently reported a decline in adverse events. Nicely done and let us hope that other states follow suit! We thought one section of the outcome data was interesting in the report, indicating that in the case of RFOs, patients were twice as likely to require a second surgery than for the RFO to be discovered while in the hospital.
We hope these stories are of interest to you.
